This
is a new section of our website that is still being developed to
help those who are interested in volunteering know what
opportunities are available. ENVIRONMENTAL
STEWARDSHIP Our
group participates in programs that promote Environmental
Stewardship such as clean up programs for hiking/biking trails,
parks, nature centers, and/or streams/rivers. We participate in
the annual state-wide Rivers Alive stream cleanup program. Hotlanta Adventures organizes the Metro
Atlanta Adopt-A-Stream Program which organizes/host community
stream monitoring workshops. We have also adopted a stream that
our group is monitoring. For
more information on these programs, visit our Environmental
Stewardship section. These opportunities are
typically announced in our
eNewsletter. CLUB
OUTINGS
AND OTHER EVENTS There
are a variety of volunteer opportunities in regards to assisting
with outings and other events. You many want to perform one or
more of these tasks at an event/outing or come up with your own
ideas for where you might like to help. The categories below are
given as suggestions to help those who are interested in
volunteering have ideas of where they might like to help. We
welcome your input and suggestions. Trip/Event
Coordinators This
is the primary person in charge of setting up and coordinating the
event/outing. Their duties can include the following but they may
also be assisted by our Club Leader or others in the group. They are responsible for directions/maps to and at the
outing location. They develop a tentative schedule for the outing
which includes times for the meeting/carpool location, driving,
breaks, activities, meals, etc. This person also works with the the Meal Coordinator
in the planning of snack/meal/refreshments needs. This person may
also be the Trip Leader. Trip/Event
Leaders This
is the primary person in charge at the outing, maintaining the
schedule, and the point (or go-to) person during the outing or
event. They also help
to coordinate the other volunteers at the event. This person may
also be the Trip Coordinator. Point
Person (meeting location) This
is someone who is the designated contact for checking in at an
event. They check off participants from the reservations list,
make phone calls to those who have not shown up to determine if
they are lost or a no show, have participants sign the liability
waiver, and give other directions. Depending on the event, these
functions may be handled by one or more persons and can also serve
as a Welcoming Facilitator. Welcoming
Facilitators
These
people help to make our group more welcoming by greeting members
as they arrive at events and letting them know where to sign in or
other information. This person may also serve as the Point Person. Club
Promoters This
can be a wide variety of task from dropping off flyers at bike
shops and
outdoor recreation stores to assisting with tabling/exhibiting
at various festivals and events to promote our group to potential
new members. Hosts This
is someone who may provide a location for an activity such as
their house, condo, apartment, backyard, pool, clubhouse or other
location for an activity. The Host of an event doesn't necessarily
have to coordinate other aspects of the social function. We will help with as much as we can to
make this easier for the host. The club has some items such as
plates, drink tumblers, silverware, and other items to use at
events to limit the responsibility of the host to provide
dinnerware. Meal
& Refreshments Coordinators Some
events may have meals that are the responsibility of the group
such as with overnight camping or cabining trips and cookouts.
This person helps develop menus, grocery lists, and other needs
for meals, snacks, and refreshments. Equipment
Coordinators This
person helps to make sure we have the proper equipment and
supplies for an activity. They also coordinate the check-out and
check-in of club or rented equipment at events. Interested
