Who organizes and leads the outings/trips?

All of our activities are organized by club volunteers who might have some experience in an activity but most likely are not experts. The majority of our activity organizers are outdoor enthusiast that have an enjoyment of the outdoors and/or hosting a social event. Members should use their own judgment in assessing their skill level and limitations to whether they should participate in a particular activity.

Some activities like whitewater rafting, caving/spelunking, rappelling, and rock climbing are usually done through an outfitter/guide company who typically provide equipment, instruction, and guides for these activities.

Do I need to be experienced to participate in an activity to participate?

Most of our events are open to participants of all experience levels with the majority being more novice to intermediate. Our members, for the most part, are people who enjoy doing a variety of outdoor activities and socializing with like minded people and not necessarily hard core outdoor adventurist. Some members might be very experienced in one activity and a novice at another.

As our club grows and interest in more advanced activities are identified, we will begin to plan activities for those who want to do more advanced excursions such as backpacking/primitive camping, more difficult hikes or bike rides, etc.

I have not attended an event, will I be out of place if I don't know anyone? Do I need to bring a friend?

At most events, about 50-75% of the attendees are either new members or those who have not been to a club function before. Even an active member may not know other active members at an event because they have participated in different activities.

More members come by themselves than those who attend an event with a friend or partner. You are welcome and encouraged to invite a friend to join our group and come to an activity but that is not required. As a new club that is continuing to add new members, this trend will most likely continue.

Think of it this way, put 650 marbles (our members) in a jar and grab a handful out, put them back, mix them up, repeat. Sometime you will pull out some of the same marbles (very active members), some marbles you will occasionally pull out (active members), most will be pulled out for the first time (new participants) and some will never leave the jar (inactive members).

How often does the group schedule activities?

Since we are an all volunteer group, it is up to the members to organize events. With both our membership and participation growing, the frequency and types of activities will be increasing. Visit the Volunteer section to learn more about our volunteer opportunities.

What is the demographics of the club and typical participants?

Since we are a newer club with a growing membership base, our club's demographics is constantly changing and becoming more diverse. Different events attract the interest of different members. The same type of activity may also have a different make ups at different times due to members' availability, interest in that individual event/venue. See the Demographics section on the About Us page.
