Advance Movie Screening of
The Omen

Regal Cinemas Hollywood 24

Midtown Atlanta

9:00 pm: We will meet in front of the Regal Cinemas Hollywood 24 in Chamblee before the screening of The Omen. You need to arrive early as the number of tickets distributed exceeds the seating capacity of the theatre. The movie starts at 10:00 p.m. but we will be inside before then. We will try to be out front until about 9:15/9:30 pm unless the theatre is full before that time.

The Omen is directed by John Moore and stars Julia Stiles, Liev Schreiber, Mia Farrow, David Thewlis, Pete Postlethwaite, Michael Gambon, and Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick.

The prophecy is clear, the signs unmistakable: Armageddon is upon us. On 6/6/06, the omen is revealed...and our darkest fears are realized. THE OMEN, a contemporary thriller based on the 1976 classic film, centers around a young boy named Damien, the son of an American diplomat and his wife. Damien’s family is unaware he is destined to become the Anti-Christ – until shattering events reveal the terrifying truth.

From Yahoo Movies: Robert Thorn is a senior American diplomat whose wife, Katherine, endures a difficult delivery where their newborn child has died. Thorn knows the news will devastate Katherine, who had suffered two previous miscarriages. The hospital priest presents Thorn with another child born that night, whose mother died in childbirth. The priest compels Thorn to take the infant boy as his own; Katherine will never know the truth, and their son, which they name Damien, will be raised as their flesh and blood.

As the child turns five, unsettling events begin to occur: Damien's nanny hangs herself at the youngster's birthday party; a strange priest brings dire warnings to Thorn; a children's trip to the zoo results in a panicked frenzy; Damien becomes hysterical during a drive to church; and blurred movements in a series of photographs portend shocking deaths. Enter Mrs. Baylock, Damien's new nanny, who seems to have a preordained devotion to the child. Then tragedy strikes closer to home. But only later does Thorn comprehend the truth: Damien is no ordinary child; he is the long-prophesized Anti-Christ. Now, Thorn must make the ultimate sacrifice to prevent the unspeakable terror that awaits the world.

Advance Movie Screening of
An Inconvenient Truth

AMC Phipps Plaza 14

Buckhead Atlanta

6:30pm: We will meet in front of the Phipps Plaza AMC Theatres on the top level of the mall before the screening of An Inconvenient Truth. You need to arrive early as the number of tickets distributed exceeds the seating capacity of the theatre. The movie starts at 7:30 PM but we will be inside before then. We will try to be out front until about 6:15 PM unless the theatre is full before that time.

From the official movie website: Humanity is sitting on a ticking time bomb. If the vast majority of the world's scientists are right, we have just ten years to avert a major catastrophe that could send our entire planet into a tail-spin of epic destruction involving extreme weather, floods, droughts, epidemics and killer heat waves beyond anything we have ever experienced.

If that sounds like a recipe for serious gloom and doom -- think again. From director Davis Guggenheim comes the Sundance Film Festival hit, AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH, which offers a passionate and inspirational look at one man's fervent crusade to halt global warming's deadly progress in its tracks by exposing the myths and misconceptions that surround it. That man is former Vice President Al Gore, who, in the wake of defeat in the 2000 election, re-set the course of his life to focus on a last-ditch, all-out effort to help save the planet from irrevocable change. In this eye-opening and poignant portrait of Gore and his "traveling global warming show," Gore also proves himself to be one of the most misunderstood characters in modern American public life. Here he is seen as never before in the media - funny, engaging, open and downright on fire about getting the surprisingly stirring truth about what he calls our "planetary emergency" out to ordinary citizens before it's too late.

With 2005, the worst storm season ever experienced in America just behind us, it seems we may be reaching a tipping point - and Gore pulls no punches in explaining the dire situation. Interspersed with the bracing facts and future predictions is the story of Gore's personal journey: from an idealistic college student who first saw a massive environmental crisis looming; to a young Senator facing a harrowing family tragedy that altered his perspective, to the man who almost became President but instead returned to the most important cause of his life - convinced that there is still time to make a difference.

With wit, smarts and hope, AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH ultimately brings home Gore's persuasive argument that we can no longer afford to view global warming as a political issue - rather, it is the biggest moral challenges facing our global civilization.

Paramount Classics and Participant Productions present a film directed by Davis Guggenheim, AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH. Featuring Al Gore, the film is produced by Laurie David, Lawrence Bender and Scott Z. Burns. Jeff Skoll and Davis Guggenheim are the executive producers and the co-producer is Leslie Chilcott.

Cost: Free movie pass for Supporting Members; Your food/drinks.

Location: Phipps Plaza is located at 3500 Peachtree Rd NE, Atlanta 30305 at the corner of Lenox Rd NE across from Lenox Mall. [Google Maps · MapQuest]

4th Annual Back to the Chattahoochee River Race & Festival
Riverside Park
Roswell

9:00 am: The Race Begins. Similar to the Peachtree Road Race, this race is an event for either competition or to just have fun.

Come join your community in this annual celebration of River appreciation! Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper (UCR), National Park Service and the City of Roswell present a canoe and kayak race ever year in June. The race starts at Garrard Landing Park on the River at Holcomb Bridge Road and finishes at Roswell’s Riverside Park, the venue for the festival, music and awards.

The race is open to both solo and tandem paddlers. There are open events for the competitors and recreational events for families and fledgling canoeists. They are also promoting a corporate team challenge category and would like companies and organizations to promote this to their employees.

10:00 am - 2:00 pm: Hotlanta Adventures will have an Exhibit Booth at the Festival. We have partnered with three different national outdoor magazines (Hooked on the Outdoors, Canoe & Kayak, and Paddler) to give out free copies of their magazines to visitors at our booth.

In conjunction with the race, an environmental festival is held at Riverside Park offering a boat and gear swap, great food, blue grass music and many environmental organizations and recreational outfitters on hand to share their information and resources. At the festival, citizens can learn how to caste a fly fishing rod, kids can visit the environmental arts and craft tables or see live animals at the Chattahoochee Nature Center’s wildlife display.

Cost: The Festival is free, see the Race & Festival website for race fees.

Location: Riverside Park is located at 575 Riverside Drive, Roswell, GA 30075-5007. [Google Maps · Yahoo! Maps · MapQuest]
