Whitewater
Rafting & Horseback Riding Weekend
Ocoee
River ('96 Olympics Venue)
Ocoee, TN |
|
|
Friday
evening: We will meet for dinner while waiting for
everyone to arrive then carpool to Ocoee.
Cost:
Your meal
Why
is the Middle Ocoee the most popular rafting river in the country
for both veteran and novice whitewater enthusiasts? Because only
the Ocoee offers the most continuous stretch of Class III-IV
Rapids in the country! Tumbling through a spectacular scenic gorge
in the Cherokee National Forest, the
Middle Ocoee plunges 269 feet over five miles; Paddlers must first
maneuver through crashing waves, around treacherous boulders and
over steep ledges.
Friday
evening - travel to cabins in Ocoee, TN
Saturday - Whitewater Rafting down the Ocoee River
Saturday night - Cookout/Party/Social
Sunday - Horseback Riding
Sunday afternoon/evening - head back to Atlanta
We
will stay in some nice cabin(s) while in Ocoee with central air conditioning,
kitchens, large deck, and sleeping loft. Choice of sleeping accommodations
in the cabins will be given based on when you make your
reservations so sign up early!
Cost:
$145.00 per person which includes your guided rafting trip,
lodging, and food/meals for the weekend (we usually have a steak dinner
on Saturday). BYOB if
you would like to have drinks for our Saturday night party. A
deposit of $90 is needed to hold your spot with the balance due by
Oct. 1, 2005.
You
should bring money for the optional horseback riding
on Sunday or any tip/gratuity that you might want to give the rafting/horseback riding
guides. Depending on what time we head back on Sunday evening, you
should budget for stopping at a restaurant for dinner. You should
also plan on sharing gas expense with your carpool driver.
Reservations:
Space on this trip is limited!

Biking
Silver Comet Trail
S. Cobb Drive Trail Extension
Smyrna |

|
|
|
Morning: Meet behind the Burger King in the
Publix/Highland
Station shopping center
The
Silver Comet Trail Extension starts at the corner of
S. Cobb Drive & the East-West Connector. This is a paved
foot/bike path on the bed of old Seaboard Air Line Railway,
named for the passenger train which rolled through here
until the ~1950s, so there are only minor elevation changes
which makes it an easy ride therefore you do not need to be
an experienced biker.
This
is a scenic ride mostly through wooded areas behind
neighborhoods and other tree lined areas. There are periodic
trail heads (access points) that have water and restrooms if
anyone needs a break. Typically we stop after about 5 miles
at the Silver Comet Depot for a water and restroom break. We
will then travel about another 5 miles and stop for a late
lunch at a fast food restaurant then head back. This is
about a 3½ hour trip. Bring a
water bottle; we will have a drink cooler at the start
point. Helmets are required!
Cost:
Group fund: $3 per person; cost of lunch
